Stories we
carry.

In Karachi, a reserved seamstress finds the possibility of love awakening memories she has spent a lifetime suppressing.

Sharmeen lives a contained life, caring for her bedridden father while navigating expectations of family, love, and identity. As she grows closer to her neighbor Jahanzeb, suppressed memories begin to surface, blurring the boundaries between reality and trauma.
The presence of Jyoti emerges from inherited fear, violent fiction, and generational silence. What begins as an intimate love story becomes a psychological unraveling as Sharmeen struggles to reclaim her sense of self.
Developed through a Houston and Karachi collaboration, JYOTI blends domestic realism with psychological tension to examine protection disguised as control, the stories we inherit, and the freedom to choose.

Behind the story

Director's perspective
"I did not want to recreate a tragedy. I wanted to explore the psychological terrain that precedes it, the suffocation, the internalized obedience, and the quiet training of a girl to shrink herself in the name of virtue."
Producers' perspective
"Strong, complex women deserve to exist at the center of stories without being reduced to symbols. Sharmeen is not an idea. She is a person navigating pressure, inheritance, and desire."
